Auto-play video hell
Currently, nothing annoys me more than when I’m scrolling through my Facebook, and all I see are people liking videos (from about 2 years ago) on my news feed. To make matters worse; they start playing!! Automatically!! Even worse if you’re in public, with your volume turned up or your phone on loud, then everyone gets to hear them too. And as we all know, if you don’t even want to hear them, no one else will do either.
So I did a little bit of digging, turns out, its easier than I thought to get rid of!
If you’re wanting to stop the auto-play on your computer, Click the drop-down menu in the top-right of the Facebook website and go to “Settings”. Click on the “Videos” link all the way at the bottom, then change the drop-down menu for “Auto-Play Videos” to off.
However, this does not change for mobile devices. (Annoying, right?)
If you’re using the Facebook app on an iPhone, go to Settings > Facebook > Settings and turn “Auto-play on Wi-Fi only” on.
Yes, you did read ‘on Wi-Fi only’. Unfortunately, there’s no way round this.So you’re sitting at home, connected to the Wi-Fi, they are still going to play! At least you’re not in public though!
If you’re also using Facebook on Android devices, in the official Facebook app, hit the button in the top right (the button with the three horizontal lines). Scroll down till you reach “App Settings” and check “Auto-play videos on Wi-Fi only”.
Again, it’s the same principle as the iPhone. Having the options to turn the Auto-Play off all together, could be the next thing that Facebook can look into.
Maybe, watch this space?
